Real Winners are Excellent Quitters!

You probably read the header of this week's article and thought "Janice, have you lost your mind?" Trust me on this one, I am running on full. I've noticed lots of skewed perceptions floating around when it comes to the idea of "quitting" and thought it was time to address it. As an avid athlete and lover of the idea of competition—quitting is not at the top of my list of preferred activities. As a mother, it is not a word ... Read more

Reboot. ReCalibrate. ReStart. part 2

Skype, iTunes, and Blackberry Desktop are three programs critical to my daily productivity. Yep, I would be lost (professionally and personally) without my three amigos. Why these three? Well Skype allows me to quickly and easily reach out to my team members, colleagues and family members for one-on-ones or group meetings. My iTunes library gives me easy access to my favorite inspirational songs (a must-have to start each day) and should I need to "whip my head back in forth" I ... Read more

Reboot. ReCalibrate. ReStart. part 1

Reboot. Reset. I need a do over! Is that how you feel today? Last night, while speaking with a friend and fellow entrepreneur, she blurted out sentiments of which I could readily identify: "Why is this computer going so SLOW???Arrrghhhh!" As if this burst a dam, she further went on, "Doesn't it know that this is month-end and I have got to get this report done in the next hour?" "Sometimes, I want to just throw this thing out! Maybe I need ... Read more

Pardon this interruption…

South Georgia recently experienced a short run of unexpected twisters. Of course, these occurrences were quite alarming—this is Georgia! Damage sustained included homes being demolished, power lines uprooted, and many roads blocked due to the tremendous amount of debris. Every news station in the area covered this "late breaking" story. Daytime TV was interrupted by eager reporters and anchors covering storm's manifestation. Between the interviews with the locals and the footage of damaged areas, I was like a jack in the box ... Read more

What do you expect? Really??

As volunteer taxi driver for my 11-year old daughter, Jasmine, I received an amazing revelation. Jasmine and a teammate ran the car eager to head to basketball practice. Full of energy from God only knows where, they hopped in offering half-hearted greetings (parents you know the drill). Less than 30 seconds into our trip, Jasmine's guest reached for the radio tuner and boldly asks "can I turn this?" Stunned, I gulped. (Ok, let me be transparent, I was appalled!) My ... Read more

Focus on results!

Standing in the voters' line, my heart raced with great expectation. While it may sound admirable (me being full of expectation…LOL!) at the time it seemed quite ridiculous. Everything around me was utterly chaotic. Nothing was going as planned, yet on the inside I was better than calm, I was fully expectant! I had no idea why? A trip that was supposed to take an hour took 3 and ½ hours! My 1:30PM appointment was not prepared and my 2:30PM was ... Read more

It’s worth the fight!

As the leaves begin to change and fall to the ground and the cycle of life continues, I find myself solemnly reflecting on a recent conversation between myself and a close friend. A dear friend and colleague called me late one afternoon inquiring if I had time for a quick update and overview regarding pending projects. “Sure, I do!” I answered in my most cheerful voice. The conversation took a normal and completely ordinary path until we were getting ready to ... Read more

Do you have a BIG Mouth?

"Word of mouth" just got louder! Poll 100 experts and ask what is the most efficient form of marketing and 70% would say word of mouth. It is so popular that in social media circle it is now know by the acronym "WOM". Yet there are others who would readily spew out a few other methods or mediums. Certainly one could argue that in some form or fashion, they would all be right! But I contend that the most successful ... Read more
